Top 5 Best Zero Turn Mowers For Hills On The Market

1. Ariens 25HP 60” ZTR Tractor: best riding lawn mower

The Ariens ZTR Tractor may put some people off with its price, but there’s no getting around the fact that it’s one of the most powerful zero turn for hills. With 25HP, it will have absolutely no problem getting up some of the steepest hills you need to cut. This power comes from twin-engines, which allow it to deliver consistent power through the cutting deck at all times. The result is a very quick cut that will reduce the time you spend out mowing your hilly terrain. In fact, the manufacturer suggests it’s capable of cutting 18,000 feet in just 60 seconds!

Perhaps one of the standout features of this product is the fact you can adjust the mower’s deck to suit your needs. There are nine different cutting positions, meaning you will get the desired length on your grass no matter what. Plus, thanks to the sheer size of the engine, it means there’s a big fuel tank capacity, which ensures you’re never left out in a field with no fuel. There are lots of positive reviews about this mower, with most people saying it lasts a long time and is easy to maintain.

Naturally, although this product comes with a lot of good stuff, there are a few bad points that need to be discussed too. Firstly, let’s get the price out of the way. It’s not a budget product, so if you’re looking to save money, this isn’t for you. It’s clearly the most expensive on this list, and it’s also one of the widest mowers too. So, if storage is an issue for you, then you may find it hard to put this away after use.

  • Adjustable cutting length
  • Offers a fast and precise cut
  • Very large and powerful engine
  • Big fuel tank
  • Great build quality and very solid
  • Plenty of leg room
  • Extremely expensive
  • Very big, so hard to store

2. Troy-Bilt Mustang 46 22HP 46-Inch: Best Zero Turn Mower

Obviously, there are multiple things to consider when choosing a zero turn for hills. But, if we were judging on cutting ability alone, then the Troy-Bilt Mustang would take the biscuit. I’ve looked at loads of zero turn mowers while creating this review, and this offers such a great cut. It’s designed to let you mow the lawn without any issues. You won’t struggle to cut certain patches, there’ll be no issues where you slow down; it’s excellent. Along with offering a nice quick cut, it’s extremely precise as well. This helps avoid problems where your lawn is unevenly cut, and you have to go back around to address the issue.

Alongside the great cutting features, this mower is also one of the most comfortable out there. The seat is nice and comfy to sit on, and there’s enough leg room to ensure you don’t cramp up or get sore. This is coupled with a nice dual suspension system that helps keep the ride as smooth as can be - which is usually tough to do when operating on hills. Another nice feature is the automatic parking brake engagement. There’s a bar that goes across your lap when you’re driving, and as soon as you stand up and lift the bar, it engages the brake. I found this to be a neat little safety feature.

So, what’s bad about this mower? Pricewise, it’s more or less in the mid-range, so it’s not too bad, but may be too expensive for people looking for budget products. But, the main drawback for me is the power. 22HP seems like a fair bit, but this mower can struggle on steep hills. Some owners say that it slips a bit when you’re cutting on a hill, which can be a problem. Plus, there have been some complaints about a lack of grip, but this might be down to the tires rather than the mower itself.

  • Exceptional cutting performance
  • Very comfortable to use
  • Automatic parking brake engagement for added safety
  • 360 degree turns
  • Great suspension
  • Slightly too expensive for some budgets
  • Struggles on steep hills
  • Lacks grip on certain surfaces

While this is a commercial grade weed eater, it is let down by a poor build that matches the low price. When it works it will be effective and powerful however it’s often a coin toss and you may find that with heavy use this product quickly breaks. Due to these issues, the device cannot be recommended.

3. Poulan Pro P46ZX Briggs V-Twin Pro 22HP: Best Investment For Homeowner Use

Now, if you’re looking for a zero turn mower that offers the best value for money over your lifetime, then this is it. It’s under $4,000, which is already a great start. However, it comes with a massive 10-year warranty attached to the cutting deck as well. This means you have a decade’s worth of free repairs if anything goes wrong, which goes to show how confident Poulan Pro is that this is a great product. Add to this a general 3-year warranty for the whole product, and you’ve got an excellent product on your hands.

What’s more, this is arguably the most long-lasting zero turn out there. This is mostly down to how quickly it allows you to cut your lawn. It’s an extremely maneuverable mower, which means you waste less time trying to get around different objects, and you can turn with ease. By speeding up your lawn cutting process, it means you use the machine for less time than many others out there. As a result, the engine doesn’t have to work as hard, which means it stays in a great condition for longer, lengthening the lifespan of this product. In essence; you can keep it for many years before it starts to drop in performance and require any repairs.

There aren’t many downsides with the Poulan Pro. However, the most significant one is that it also struggles when in-use on steep hills. So, if your garden is particularly steep, then this could pose a large problem for you. There have also been some complaints about the fact there’s no bagging system to collect grass cuttings. If this is something you desperately need, then it’s a negative for you. Also, some users have said it’s hard to find replacement parts if things do need replacing.

  • Excellent value for money
  • Long-lasting and durable mower
  • Easy to drive and maneuver around
  • Reduces cutting time quite substantially
  • Struggles on steep hills
  • Hard to find replacement parts
  • No bagging system

While this is a commercial grade weed eater, it is let down by a poor build that matches the low price. When it works it will be effective and powerful however it’s often a coin toss and you may find that with heavy use this product quickly breaks. Due to these issues, the device cannot be recommended.

4. Ariens Zoom 50 21HP: The Most Comfortable Mower On The Market

We’ve seen a mower that offers the most power, one that’s the best at cutting, and one that’s the most affordable. But, what if your principal concern is how comfortable the product is? After all, you may be sitting on it for quite some time is you have lots of grass to cut. Step forward the Ariens Zoom 50; the most comfortable mower on the market right now. It’s quite clear that Ariens has made an effort to include loads of features that specifically target comfort. This consists of an armrest kit that lets you rest your arms while you’re riding it. You take all strain out of your forearms, which can often get sore as you drive. Add to this a shoulder support system that allows them to get some rest, and you have a mower that tackles all the main problem areas.

While comfort is the main selling point of this mower, it’s also highly capable of doing its job too. There are control arm dampeners which help you keep the mower going in a straight line for a nice neat cut. I was also a fan of the transmission which lets you alter how fast you’re going, depending on how you feel.

As for the negatives, well, the price is a bit of a problem. It’s quite expensive, and it might not be worth the money if you’re not in need of a mower that targets comfort. Plus, like most of the mowers on this list, it’s also not great on the steepest of hills

  • Very ergonomic and comfortable
  • Precision cutting system
  • Adjustable speed
  • Expensive
  • Not overly effective on steep hills

While this is a commercial grade weed eater, it is let down by a poor build that matches the low price. When it works it will be effective and powerful however it’s often a coin toss and you may find that with heavy use this product quickly breaks. Due to these issues, the device cannot be recommended.

5. Husqvarna MZ61 27HP: A Brilliant All-Rounder

The Husqvarna MZ61 makes this list because it does everything very well. It boasts 27HP, which is more than any other mower on the market. However, this isn’t the standout feature. For me, it’s a very reliable product that blends comfort, efficiency, and cutting performance all into one.

When you look at the steering system, you realize it’s one of the easiest and best to maneuver when cutting the grass. It can literally rotate 360 degrees on the spot, without the need for any turning room. What’s more, it has a ‘chokeless start’ feature, which essentially means it will start instantly without any delays. Combine this with a digital hour meter that shows you when you need to service the mower, and you’ve got a very good product.

The main negative point is that it doesn’t excel in one area, it just does a fine job all across the board. Some of the other mowers offer better maneuverability, better cutting speeds and precision, and more comfortable rides. Also, it can be quite expensive if you don’t want to spend over $4,000 on a zero turn mower.

  • Very powerful
  • Starts instantly regardless of weather conditions
  • Great steering system
  • Tells you when it needs servicing
  • Quite expensive
  • Not the most comfortable around
  • Jack of all trades, master of none?

While this is a commercial grade weed eater, it is let down by a poor build that matches the low price. When it works it will be effective and powerful however it’s often a coin toss and you may find that with heavy use this product quickly breaks. Due to these issues, the device cannot be recommended.

What Is The Best Trimmer Line To Buy In 2020?

The weeds are out of control and the garden is becoming a wilderness. Now, you need a quality weed trimmer. Or perhaps you are looking for a new device for your landscaping or gardening business. But wait because it’s not just about the device itself.

You need the right trimmer line too. The best trimmer line will be able to cut the weeds for hours, be suitable for cutting a range of different plants and shrubs and it will last you a long time. You might find that a great strimmer line could last for years.

There are lots of different strimmer lines to choose from. We’ve compiled the top five for you to consider for your garden and landscaping needs.

Top 5 Best Trimmer Line For Edging Reviews

1. Oregon 22-895 Magnum Gatorline - Budget Friendly Line

If you’re looking for a trimmer line suitable for the most difficult jobs and cuts, then this could be the choice for you. With 681 feet of solid, strong line at .95 in diameter, this line will handle the toughest jobs around your garden or for your landscaping project. The strong inner core of the line is designed to resist breaking so that you won’t need to constantly rethread while you’re working. At 3 pound, this line is also quite light, and the spool has a diameter of 10’’. It provides a great cut and will work with a recommended line size of .095.

Oregon 22-895 Magnum Gatorline Square.095", 3 Lb
  • .095" diameter, 3 Lb
  • Incorporates the high strength core and weld-resistant outer layer with square shape
  • Heavy-duty, professional, dual polymer
  • Flexible core
  • Long lasting

The square shape line is ideal for a larger yard or thicker weeds and beneficial for heavier lawns. Providing a lower cut time, you’ll be able to get a lot of the job completed at a rapid pace. We’re very impressed with the durability of this line, and you can get a complete project completed without a single bump!

While this line is cheaper than competing products, the material is quite soft, and the square edge will slow down the trimmer. So, you might find that using this line you waste a lot of power. As well as this, while the line will last for a while trimming grass if you venture near rocks or concrete, it will wear down fast. As such, it’s not ideal for tidying up the edges of an area. While it will work well for medium jobs such as thick grass and weed it will also wear down thick for heavier areas.

  • Low price
  • Square shape great for medium jobs
  • Will last well cutting thick weeds and grass
  • check
    Great for rapid work
  • check
    Fewer bumps when operating

  • Not suitable for brush and thicker jobs
  • Will wear down fast around rocks and concrete
  • Not suitable for cleaning up the edges
  • ban
Square shape causes a low level of efficiency

Ultimately Oregon is a great budget-friendly product for medium-sized jobs, and you will be pleased with the durability when used on a typical landscaping project. However, the low price comes at a cost, and the square shape could cost you more than you bargained for in power levels.

2. LoNoiz 130-Inch-by-150-Foot - Commercial Use For Tough Jobs

The LoNoiz is a trimmer line suitable for landscapers and gardeners and is available at a cheap cost. With a spiral twist line, it will work well on the heavy and thick use, and if you have rugged, tough work, this could be the line you want. Boosting the impact of a round line, this will provide top results even around concrete or hard surfaces. Ideal for lower levels of noise, despite the high power, this isn’t going to give you a headache during operations. While providing only 150 feet, this line should work well for years. Made in the USA, it’s suitable for a range of models including Stihl, Tanaka and Hitachi models.

Providing fantastic levels of strength and durability, this line could be a great replacement. It is definitely an upgrade if you are used to using round plastic and will work on even the toughest jobs.

However, the higher level of durability will mean that you need to come to terms with the fact that results will not be as smooth or as clean if you have used a smaller diameter line before. With a 130 inch diameter, you may find that this line is too thick for certain strimmers. Similar to Oregon this will also not be suitable for cutting bushes. As well as this, the line is so thick and strong that is can be a disadvantage if you are using it near housing siding, fences or gutters. It is powerful enough to cause damage to these areas and materials as well as your grass. Extra care will be needed using this line around these locations. You will also need to cut your own line as a replacement.

  • Very thick and durable
  • Low price for a long length
  • Great for commercial jobs
  • check
Not as smooth as or as clean as circular lines
  • check
    Suitable around rocks and concrete

  • Tough material may damage surrounding areas such as fencing
  • Not suitable for cutting bushes
  • Need to cut your own line for replacements

Thick and durable, this is the line you want for those tougher landscaper jobs. Definitely, for commercial purposes, you’ll find it will last for hours even on the thickest shrubs and weeds. However, this is definitely not a suitable product if you want smooth cuts which is expected when you have a thicker diameter line.

3. Maxpower 333665 - A Great Line For Typical Gardening

If you’re looking for a line to tidy up your garden, this might be the right choice. It’s designed for a residential yard with a round shape that will provide the clean, neat cut that you want. Suitable for lighter use, you get a massive 8000 feet with this product however that’s to be expected when you have a lighter line with a smaller diameter of just .065. Made from 100% nylon, this is a quality product and will work with gas or electric trimmers as long as the diameter matches. Depending on use, this product could last for an entire year.

It is a little tight though, and you may need to unwind the line manually to get the trimmer working well again. This may affect whether you want to pay the cost for this trimmer as it is quite expensive. Obviously, the line is not meant for tougher jobs and using it will result in breaks. This is designed for thinner, lighter weeds and grass that needs to be cut. It may be thinner than you would expect too which could ultimately impact how much use you get out for this product before it needs replacing.

  • Thinner line works fantastically on thinner grass
  • Great for residential use and tidying up the garden
  • Plenty of line to use and could last over a year

  • Price high for the value
  • Needs to be manually unwound on occasion
  • May have issues getting it to tighten
  • ban
    Not suitable for tougher jobs
  • ban
Will break easily around concrete and stones

The line is great for residential use but may not be suitable for commercial purposes. It’s a fantastic line if you have lighter jobs however using it for heavy projects will result in the thin line wearing away and breaking faster than you would like. Ultimately, the large length makes this a great choice for typical home gardeners.

4. Cyclone 155-Inch-by-315-Foot - The Landscaping Line

Are you a landscaper looking for a line to use in your trimmer? The cyclone could be the perfect fit for you. The hexagon shape of the line ensures that you have an additional level of power when cutting and this product is great for high-wheel trimmers. Suitable for .065 diameter, you’ll get 315 feet of trimmer line.

You’ll be impressed when you use this trimmer line on some of the tougher landscaping jobs. It definitely breaks less than other lines that you might be used to and could serve as a great replacement for those less durable lines that may have come with your device. Ultimately, this line is powerful enough to cut through pencil baby oak trees which will remove less than an inch from the line. With 340 feet to play with you should find that this line lasts you along you a long time, even when used on tough jobs. The red color is also a bonus as it ensures that this line is easy to see in the grass. You can clear wooded areas in minutes using this product.

That said, this does come at a cost. First, it isn’t as efficient as you would hope and the level of cutting can be questionable. You may not see the smooth results that you would expect, so it depends on what’s more important to you.

Do be aware though that this line is incredibly thick. You may find that it is not suitable for your device. You need to check specifications first before you buy and commit to a purchase. It is also not as durable as a twisted line which is intended for heavier jobs. Unlike a twisted line and the heavier products that we have reviewed above, this line will not hold against rocks or concrete. Thicker weeds may also quickly use up this line which perhaps isn’t what you expect for a product intended for heavier use.

  • Multiple sides provide more power
  • Red color easy to see through grass
  • Will last a long time
  • check
    Great for landscaping

  • Will wear down fast on rocky terrain
  • Does not provide high value for money
  • May not be suitable for certain trimmers
  • ban
Commercial users may find it wears down faster

Suitable for landscaping, this line does provide a higher level of power compared to other products on the market. However, unlike other products for heavier use, this will not handle rocks and terrains well at all. Though, if you’re looking to cut through thicker shrubs away from terrain like this, it could definitely be suitable.

5. Husqvarna 639005106 - Quiet And Eco Efficient

Are you tired of strimmer lines that make your device sound let a jet engine as well as the massive level of power they need? Well, The Husqvarna could be the one you need. It’s a commercial grade trimmer and is suitable for a range of trimmers too. With a 0.95 diameter, this is one of the thicker lines available, and you will get 840 feet with this product. Made out of titanium this trimmer line is designed to give you a higher level of power and durability than other options on the market. As long as you are loading a spool, this should work on most trimmers.

Husqvarna Titanium Force String Trimmer Lines, 0.095" By 1/2", Orange/Gray
  • Longer life, Better performance, Faster acceleration Made in the USA - Our design is based on cutting edge technology that delivers longer life, better performance, faster acceleration, level flight characteristics
  • High cutting efficiency - Means less work possible with the right choice of materials.
  • Low-noise - The patented design on Husqvarna's low-noise lines reduces the noise level by 50 % which gives a better working environment
  • Includes free line cutter
  • This product is best suited for trimming grass

The big benefit of this trimmer is that it will save you a lot of money on fuel which is great if you are using a gas powered device. It’s strong too, easily cutting through five feet high weeds. It should even hold up around rocks and is less likely to break.

One of the issues with this product is that you will notice welding in the spool. This will usually occur if it is wrapped too loose. However, this could be avoided if you wrap it tight and do not fill the spool. As well as this, while it will handle the rocky terrain, this will cause the line to cut down fast. The same is true if you are cutting heavier brush which could leave it lasting just five minutes. You might also struggle to find out how to use this product in different strimmers. As such, the first time you use it you’ll find there’s a lot of trial and error.

  • Quiet and efficient
  • Plenty of line provided
  • Strong enough for thick weeds

  • Will last less time around rocks
  • May weld if loose
  • Wears down fast with heavier bush

Ultimately, this trimmer line will work well for you for tougher jobs, and the high level of efficiency is certainly an advantage. But it’s not good enough to provide a use for every type of bush and shrub you want to cut.

Final Verdict

So, which out of these trimmers should you use? While each of these options provides advantages to you, we think for commercial purposes, the LoNoiz is a fantastic option. It’s highly effective, durable and comes in at a great cost. It will last a long time too, and you can even use it around rocks and concrete.

As for typical gardening, the Oregon is a great choice and will work well on thick shrubs in your yard. While it may not handle concrete well, you can take comfort in the lower cost and should have no issues using this line regularly for at least a year.
